rmcPhotos started with a simple mission: Provide Randolph-Macon College with consistent, high-quality, professional-grade imagery in order to better
- promote the athletics program,
- recognize deserving athletes and staff, and
- assist the school’s development initiatives
Five years later, even though our core mission hasn’t changed, the scope of what we do has expanded a bit. We shoot about 20,000 images a year for R-MC. These include not just action images from games, but also headshots, team photos, and facility photos. We are constantly looking for images that help illustrate the Yellow Jacket experience, from the stands to the fields to the sidelines and everywhere in between.
Decidedly, this is quite an undertaking, not just to capture the images, but to maintain an infrastructure to support the operation. Typically, we shoot anywhere from 500-1000 images per event. These images have to be unloaded to a PC, cataloged, and processed for viewing. After weeding through the images, we have to process images to deliver to the Sports Information office, and then we have to process images for the galleries. And then we have to archive everything. This is a time and labor intensive operation, to say the least.
We have been constantly upgrading our equipment and systems in order to produce and maintain the highest caliber photographic legacy possible. We’re doing everything we can to provide parents, athletes, and coaches streamlined access to this visual celebration of Yellow Jackets imagery. The results of our efforts is what you’re seeing here, as rmcPhotos evolves into a portal for accessing and utilizing this incredible resource.
